Studio Policy

STUDIO POLICY

 LESSONS

  • Lessons take place once weekly. More than once a week can be discussed, but cannot be guaranteed due to scheduling constraints.

  • Lessons are offered as semester packages at 30, 45, and 60 minutes per lesson.

  • Each student will receive:

        • Instruction in the interpretation and performance of piano literature, piano technique, music theory, and musicianship.

        • A tailored curriculum to match their learning needs.

        • Performance opportunities (i.e. recitals, studio classes, exams, competitions, etc.).

        • Comprehensive preparation for performances.

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS

Consistency and focused practiced sessions are essential to progress when learning a musical instrument. The amount of time per session will vary depending on the student’s age, level, and goals. A practice plan will be advised by the teacher for each student depending on these factors. Trying to cram an entire week’s worth of practice immediately before a lesson hinders progress.

MATERIALS

  • Books and other materials are included in the tuition and are provided by the teacher.

  • An assignment notebook will also be provided by the teacher for students in grades K-12. Detailed practice notes will be written in this notebook to guide the student during their weekly practice sessions and to track progress.

  • Students are expected to bring their books/sheet music and assignment notebook to each lesson.

  • Students should have a metronome or metronome app for at-home practice. A free online metronome can also be easily accessed via Google Search. The instructor can provide further details and answer any questions regarding acquiring a metronome.

ATTENDANCE & CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Each student is guaranteed their regular scheduled lesson each week.

  • Consistent attendance is just as important as consistent practice to ensure progress.

  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Each student is permitted 1 make-up lesson per month (this applies only to cancellations made at least 24 hours in advance). If the student is unable to make up the lesson, the missed class will be forfeited regardless of when the cancellation was made. All cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be counted as a lesson. Medical and family emergencies are exceptions.

  • All make-up lessons must take place within the same semester and cannot be carried over into the following semester.

  • In the event that the teacher needs to cancel due to illness or emergency, the lesson will be rescheduled. If the teacher and the student are unable to find an aligned time to reschedule, credit will be given.

TUITION

  • Tuition is charged by semester, paid in monthly installments as a flat rate, and is non-refundable. Tuition is prorated if a student begins later in the semester.

  • Payment is due the 1st lesson of each month. Invoices will be sent by email. Payments may be made by Venmo, Zelle, or check.

  • Tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance, and reserves the student’s lesson time throughout the semester.

SEMESTER SCHEDULE

  • Fall Semester: September - December

  • Spring Semester: January - June

  • Summer Semester: July - August

CONSULTATION

Each new student is guaranteed a complimentary 15-20 min. consultation before registering for a package of lessons. The consultation will take place over a video call. If the call is with the student’s parent(s), the student is required to be on for at least part of the call.

The consultation is an opportunity to discuss any questions regarding the lessons, student goals, and studio policy.

If we’ve determined the studio is a good fit, then we will proceed with registration.

This policy is subject to change at the discretion of the instructor at any time.
